Feline nutrition is often treated as a simpler version of canine nutrition. It is not. Cats have evolved as strict carnivores for millions of years — their digestive system, metabolic pathways, and nutritional requirements are entirely distinct. Celtic Connection cat recipes are formulated by practitioners who understand that distinction, and who refuse to compromise it for cost or convenience. If your cat has struggled on food that claimed to be complete, the biology is usually the reason.
Unlike dogs, cats cannot synthesise taurine, arginine, or arachidonic acid from plant precursors. These must come from animal tissue — and in sufficient amounts. All Celtic Connection cat recipes are built to meet feline requirements at the source, not through synthetic supplementation.
Cats have a naturally low thirst drive and are susceptible to urinary crystal formation. Our recipes include functional herbs chosen to gently support and protect the urinary system — a consideration absent from most commercial cat foods.
Therapeutic glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM are included in cat recipes for the same reason they appear in dog recipes — because comfort and mobility matter at every life stage, not just in old age.

Grains & Gluten
Cats lack the digestive enzymes to process grains effectively. Their presence in a cat food is a formulation compromise, not a nutritional choice.
Soy & Legumes
Plant proteins that cats cannot efficiently utilise — and which displace the animal protein that defines a biologically appropriate diet.
White Potato & Rice
High-glycaemic fillers with no nutritional relevance to cats — and a particular concern for cats predisposed to diabetes.
Added Sugar
Cats cannot taste sweetness. Sugar in cat food serves only the manufacturer's palatability targets — not the cat's wellbeing.
Artificial Preservatives
BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin have no place in a food formulated for long-term health. Natural antioxidants do the same job without the risk.
Meat Meals & By-products
Every protein source in our cat recipes is human-grade quality, and traceable. If it is not good enough for a kitchen, it is not good enough for the bowl.
Carrageenan
A standard thickener in wet cat food with strong evidence of gut inflammation, particularly in cats with sensitive systems. None in any our recipes.
Artificial Flavouring
When the meat quality is high enough, flavour enhancement is unnecessary. Cats that are drawn to a bowl because of real food are eating the right food.

Our cat kibble is steam-cooked at low temperature to retain the vitamins and amino acids that high-heat processing degrades — including taurine, which cats cannot synthesise and must consume daily. Each recipe is nutritionally complete as a standalone diet — no rotation required.
