Built on science. Rooted in tradition. Refused to compromise.
What Holistic Means to Celtic Connection
You have stood in a pet food aisle and not known who to trust. You have read ingredients you could not pronounce and marketing claims you could not verify.
That uncertainty is the reason Celtic Connection exists.
A word that belongs on this label
The word holistic appears on thousands of pet food bags. It almost never comes with a definition.
Holistic comes from the Greek holos — whole. In clinical practice, it means one thing: you cannot treat a part of a body without understanding the whole body it belongs to. A joint problem is a lymph problem. A coat problem is a detoxification problem. A digestion problem is a nutrient delivery problem. The systems are not separate. They are in constant relationship with each other.
This is the foundational principle of osteopathic medicine. It is also the principle on which every Celtic Connection recipe is built.
“No system in isolation. Every system in relation to every other.”
What it means in formulation
Holistic, at Celtic Connection, is not a philosophy statement. It is a method. Every recipe is designed so that all five of the body's primary detox organs are supported simultaneously — liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, and colon.
Joints are supported so lymph moves freely. Digestion is unhindered so nutrients reach the tissue that needs them. Coat condition reflects the health of what is beneath it. Cognition and focus are supported by the lipids and amino acids the brain requires.
The Beginning
"I looked for a food worthy of the animals in my care. It didn't exist."
As an animal osteopath and qualified engineer, I was trained to look at whole systems — structure, function, and the conditions that either support or undermine both. When I turned that eye to pet nutrition, I found a market full of compromise.
Ingredients optimised for margin. Labels written for compliance rather than clarity. Therapeutic doses diluted to the point of gesture. I spent years looking. Eventually, I stopped looking and started formulating.
Celtic Connection is what happens when a scientist who is also a clinician refuses to accept the standard that exists — and builds the one that should.
The Patent
The recipes are formulated in Belgium, using proteins paired within the same animal family — fish with fish, poultry with poultry, caprinae with caprinae. Complementary proteins from the same family deliver a more complete amino acid balance than a mono-protein can achieve. They do so without introducing a second allergenic family — which means the recipes are suitable as the basis for veterinary elimination trials in animals with food sensitivities or confirmed allergies. That combination of nutritional completeness and hypoallergenic integrity is the basis of an international patent. The numbers of which are printed on every bag.
The animals these recipes are made for are not livestock. They live in your home. They are part of your daily life, how your days are structured and how your years are measured. The standard they deserve is not a commercial decision. It is the only honest response to that relationship.

The Philosophy
"The Celts understood that food was medicine — that what you gave a living creature each day either built its resilience or quietly eroded it."
Dogs · Facultative carnivores
Wolves forage. They tear out the stomach to get to the nutrient-rich organs, consuming it while discarding its contents. Fresh berries, grasses, and herbs round out what they find. Our dog recipes honour this — 70% animal ingredients, 30% fruits, vegetables and functional herbs. Not because it tests well. Because it is correct.
Cats · Obligate carnivores
Cats are a categorically different animal with categorically different requirements. We do not conflate species. Our cat recipes reflect strict carnivore biology — high animal protein, species-appropriate herbs, no compromise on amino acid profiles or taurine sufficiency.
Functional herbs · Five detox organs
Each recipe incorporates herbs selected for their known functional properties — chosen for their traditional and evidence-based association with the body's primary detoxification organs.

The Symbol
A Welsh love spoon, carved with care and intention
The Celtic love spoon is a traditional symbol of care, skill, and devotion — given by someone who understood that the way you make something is also an expression of how much you care.
The animals we feed cannot ask for better. They cannot read a label, question an ingredient, or choose for themselves. They eat what we give them, and they trust us completely. That trust is the weight behind every recipe we formulate. Not a production decision. A responsibility — and one we take seriously, because they deserve nothing less.
The Standard
The standard your pet deserves.
The one we refused to compromise.
